The firewall feature is an additional advantage offered by Power Embedded, which is not available in Power BI itself.

This feature allows you to block access to the report viewing portal only for users who are using specific IP addresses, providing greater control and data security.

How to use the Firewall

To use this feature, we need to take two steps:

  1. Enable the firewall rule

  2. Register the IP rule

For the Firewall rule to work correctly, you need to follow the steps listed, as one complements the other.

It's not enough just to register a rule; you have to enable it in the settings menu.

Step 1: Enable firewall rule

In the Administration portal, go to the Settings page

Check the option Enable firewall rule and then click Save.

When you make this setting, if there is at least 1 IP registered in the block list and your IP is not registered in the rules, you will not be able to access the viewing portal.

Step 2: Register an IP rule

You can click on the Add my IP address button or add it manually under Create Rule:

  • Add my IP address: Here, the portal automatically brings up your current IP address. With just one click on the button, you can enter your current IP address.

  • Create Rule: By selecting this option, you will fill in the name of the rule and add a start and end IP address range. If you only want to release a single IP address, fill in both with the same IP number.

Once this is done, the firewall is configured for use. Below are more guidelines for making the most of this feature.

In this same tab, you can view the registered rules, remembering that this will only work if the previous steps are followed correctly.

When you create a rule, a button called 'Actions' appears on the right-hand side.

A number of functions are available on this button:

  • Edit: You can modify the rule, including changing the name and associated IP address.

  • Remove: Removes the specified rule. When deleting a rule, remember that the user associated with it will lose access to the portal, unless they have the specific 'Disregard firewall rules' permission, which will allow normal access to the portal for both individual users and groups.

  • Entity Audit: Here you can find information about who created the rule and when. This menu allows you to view user activity in the administration portal.

In the administration portal, open the > Firewall Rules page.
